Chiropractors in West Virginia

West Virginia chiropractors will often recommend that an x-ray examination be part of the initial work up when you begin chiropractic care. This is especially true when the patient has begun chiropractic care as the result of some significant trauma. Chiropractors are always mindful that that traumatic events may produce spinal bone fractures which may rule out chiropractic adjustments to those areas of the spine.

Another reasons that chiropractors in West Virginia will recommend x-rays is to rule out pathologies such as cancers or tumors that may require consultation or referral to other types of practitioners. Many of the chiropractors in West Virginia are members of the West Virginia Chiropractic Society which serves as a representative membership organization for chiropractors in West Virginia and are keenly aware of these x-ray guidelines.

Most West Virginia chiropractors will take a series of x-ray pictures when patients begin care complaining of low back pain. A front to back view, called an "A to P" reveals proper alignment. The side view, called a "lateral" view reveals disc spacing and proper spinal curves. It often surprises patients when chiropractors take a picture of the neck, after all the pain is in the lower back! However, West Virginia chiropractors know that low back pain often produces a compensation reaction, causing spinal misalignments in the upper spine.

West Virginia chiropractors recognize that a set of x-rays should be good for at least a couple of years unless there is an incident of trauma. Then new pictures should be taken.

Chiropractors will often remark that trying to help a patient without x-rays is like asking your car mechanic to fix your car without opening the hood. In other words, "to see is to know."
