Cure Ear Infections Naturally

Ear infections strike today's children with alarming frequency. An all-natural approach already exists that is effective in reducing ear infection frequency and duration!

Ear Infections – if you are distressed and bewildered parents who have heard your infant or young child screaming in pain, for no apparent reason, you are probably a parent of one of the millions of children who have had an ear infection. Unfortunately, babies and toddlers aren’t equipped with the necessary language skills to let you know that their ears hurt.

Ear infections are the most common reason for a trip to the pediatrician’s office. In fact, more than half of all infants will have an ear infection by the time they reach their first birthday; 75% of all children will have had an ear infection by the time they reach age three and 50% of these will have had three or more ear infections during that same period.

Doctors used to be quick to write a script for antibiotics as the first line defense for ear infections. However, this way of thinking has been the subject of many debates with many more doctors adopting a more conservative “wait and see” stance when treating ear infections.

There are some doctors, however, who still believe that antibiotics and/or over-the-counter pain medications are in the best interests of the child (and parents), especially as a means to ease the excruciating pain associated with middle ear infection quickly.

If your child has chronic ear infections, the doctor may have advised you to consider the placement of ear tubes in your child’s ears to assist with proper drainage of ear fluid. But, before you sign on the dotted line, consider the fact that all-natural ear infection relief, that greatly reduces the reoccurrence and severity of ear infections, already exists.

Ear Infections – Understanding Ear Anatomy

Middle ear infections are common in young children due to a buildup of fluid. Most outer ear infections, also known as swimmer’s ear, are caused by water remaining in the outer portion of ear after swimming.

In order to understand the causes of middle ear infections, it is helpful to know something about the structure of the ear itself.

The ear consists of three parts – the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. The middle ear connects to the back of the throat and nose by means of the eustachian tube. When your child has a cold, nasal discharge, allergies, or a sore throat, the eustachian tube can become blocked, causing fluid to back up in the middle ear. This backup becomes easily infected by bacteria or a virus which cause the eardrum to swell, resulting in pain and a condition known as acute otitis media, or middle ear infection.

Ear Infection Symptoms in Children

The most frustrating aspect of having a sick child is that their language skills are undeveloped, making it difficult for a parent to pinpoint the problem if they are crying for no apparent reason.

So how can you tell if an ear infection is causing all those tears and irritability – and not something else? By observation of your child’s behavior and some quick diagnostics on your part!

Ear infection symptoms in children include:

  • Crying more than usual
  • Tugging or pulling on one or both ears
  • Fever (greater than 100° F or 38°C)
  • Cold symptoms (i.e., runny nose, nasal congestion, fatigue)
  • Headache
  • Difficulty sleeping

If you see a yellowish and/or bloody discharge coming from your child’s ear, this is usually a sign that the pressure from the fluid buildup in the middle ear had become so intense that it ruptured the eardrum. Although this may sound serious, it is really nature’s way of relieving the pressure which, in turn, diminishes the pain.

Ear Infection Treatments

Although painful and uncomfortable, ear infections certainly are not life threatening. Most doctors practice a “wait and see” attitude for 72 hours before prescribing medication because many ear infections will clear up on their own during that time period. And, sometimes parents may try a number of home remedies for ear infections, which can provide some relief.

Antibiotics are frequently prescribed when a child has two or more ear infections within 30 days or a child is younger than six months of age. There is fear of overprescribing antibiotics, specifically when the infection is caused by a virus which doesn’t respond to, or even require, antibiotic therapy. Overuse of antibiotics can also cause the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria, a real concern when a frequently ill child is prescribed round after round of antibiotic therapy.

When a child with recurrent ear infections fails to respond to antibiotics, the risk of hearing loss increases, often prompting the pediatrician to recommend a surgical solution. Ear tubes are implanted into the eardrums under general anesthesia to assist with fluid drainage. And, in 20% – 30% of all surgical cases, the surgery needs to be repeated, for some, multiple times.

Still, many parents opt for the surgical solution, allowing their child to have invasive, microscopic surgery under general anesthesia, before they even consider a safe and totally natural alternative to drugs and surgery for childhood ear infections.

Why, you may wonder? Because perhaps they are just unaware of the fact that it even exists!

Treating Ear Infections, Naturally

What if someone told you that there was a solution to your child’s ear infections that is safe, gentle and natural? What if this same solution didn’t require surgery, was drug free and had the potential to work better than any home remedies for ear infections that you may have tried, surgery or drugs? Would you scoff and walk away? What if they told you the solution was chiropractic care?

Ear Infection Treatment with All-Natural Chiropractic Care

Many parents look horrified when anyone even suggests consulting a chiropractor for childhood ear infections. How can a chiropractor provide care for a child in the first place, when they can only provide care to adults, and how can they help with ear infections when all they are good for is achy necks and backs? The answer is simple…necks and backs obviously are not the only conditions that respond to chiropractic care!

Chiropractic is the most sought after alternative health discipline. Chiropractors receive years of doctoral level training to discover the causes of disease in both children and adults; they don’t just treat symptoms.

Today’s chiropractic can help children with ear infections because:

  • Chiropractic care locates and addresses the causes of ear infections; it doesn’t just deal with their symptoms, like home remedies for ear infections, drugs and surgery.
  • Chiropractic adjustments are safe and gentle; this is especially important when dealing with babies and young children!
  • Chiropractic adjustments attempt to restore proper functioning of the nervous system which helps to eliminate recurrences of ear infections.
