No More TMJ Pain!

There are natural solutions to help relieve TMJ pain.

Perhaps you hear a popping or clicking sound when you open or close your mouth. Or you go to eat a hotdog at a family bar-b-q, and your jaw locks. Maybe chewing gives you a headache. TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder) pain is a big problem for many. It keeps you from sleeping and can make your ears ring at times. This is something you need to get treated before it leads to more complications like jaw degenerations.

Chiropractic is one of the few therapies that can help reduce the pain and even realign the jaw for proper tracking. Several types of treatment work very well. When folks think of muscles, they tend to forget that the face is just as full of muscles as the rest of the body! And, just like your biceps and hamstrings can have trigger points and muscle soreness, so can the muscles of your face. Adjustments to help relax not only the external muscles of the face such as the temporalis and masseter, but also the pterygoid muscles which aid in side-to-side and back-and-forth movement of the jaw, are often helpful. After aiding in relaxing these muscles, adjusting the upper cervical spine and any neck muscles which put tension on the TMJ provides further relief of headaches and other TMJ symptoms. If need be, you can then be referred back to your orthodontist so he can fit you with a night brace which will keep your jaw relaxed and in neutral position as you sleep.
