Once considered a luxury for the rich and famous, a personal trainer is now a regular “fixture” in many homes.

Some people join gyms and fitness centers to get the recommended amount of physical exercise, but there are those who would rather avoid these very public displays and who choose to work out in the privacy of their homes. Ok, so suppose you decide that a personal trainer is for you – how do you go about choosing one? Here are several factors to consider:

  • Education – Your personal trainer should, at the very least, have completed some type of formal post-secondary education along with specific education in the field.
  • Experience – make sure he/she has worked with a number of people for at least two years – get references and check them out!
  • Certifications – these are important, along with the continuing education that most certifications require.
  • Flexibility – the ability to adapt to your specific personality and fitness/training needs.

Don’t be afraid to talk to several personal trainers before making a decision. After all, this is an investment in yourself, designed to create a better, healthier you!
