Relief of Asthma Symptoms

Natural Relief of Asthma Symptoms

If you’re the parent of a child who suffers from difficulty breathing, you’d do anything to help them find relief of asthma symptoms. While inhalers are often the most prescribed medicine, they’re designed to treat symptoms.

Natural chiropractic care is an effective, gentle way to find relief of asthma symptoms by correcting a common cause of childhood asthma and providing effective asthma treatment.

Asthma: A Worldwide Epidemic

According to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, approximately 300,000,000 people suffer from the symptoms of asthma worldwide and 255,000 asthma-related deaths occurred in 2005.

There is nothing more frightening for parents than to watch helplessly as their child experiences a full-blown asthma attack that is often followed by a trip to the emergency room and a hospital admission to stabilize the child. For some parents, this scenario is played out far too often.

These parents are seeking more permanent relief for their childrens’ asthma symptoms, something that looks more like an asthma cure, and less like a band-aid.

Chiropractic Care for Asthma Symptoms

Chiropractors believe that life is about choices, intelligent choices, based on research, knowledge and results. They are health care providers who have years of experience with childhood asthma and know that drugs definitely are not a solution nor are they adequate for providing long term relief of asthma symptoms.

They realize that sometimes, the treatment is worse than the disease. They also have a firm grasp on the influence of the central nervous system on the health of the body.

“Chiropractors, for my child’s asthma?”

kids stretching on a trackYes, because you see, the chiropractors believe that most illnesses result from a malfunction in the central nervous system. Asthma symptoms are often the result of a less than optimally functioning nervous system.

What causes your child’s nervous system to function only under half steam? Usually it’s because of a spinal misalignment that occurs as a result of some type of trauma. Pediatric chiropractic can address these traumas.

With an asthmatic child, or adult, that trauma may have resulted from a fall, an accident or even the birth process itself.

It’s safe to say that nearly everyone experiences some type of head or neck trauma in their lives and the sooner you get a chiropractic evaluation after such an incident, the better. So, in the case of your infant, having one of our sponsors examine, evaluate and adjust him or her now can save a lot of needless pain and illness later!

The Nervous System and Chiropractic Care

When a spine becomes misaligned because of trauma, the nerves that exit that area of the spine malfunction. And, when nerves malfunction, the areas of the body that they control are affected, usually with some type of illness, because the communication link between that body part and the brain has been compromised.

When nerve interference is present, the “relay” system between the brain and the body breaks down. Chiropractors receive special education and training to able to locate and correct a spinal misalignment, allowing the nerve relay system to get back up and running, with the brain-body communications link fully functional once again.

Need proof? There are plenty of parents and former asthma sufferers who are patients of our chiropractors and can assure you that chiropractic care worked for them and their children.

Symptoms of Asthma

Asthma symptoms result when bronchial (breathing) airways become narrow and constricted, usually in response to an allergen (i.e., pet dander, nuts, shellfish, medication) or an irritant (i.e., second-hand smoke, smog, emotional upset).

Asthma symptoms can be mild, severe or even life threatening; they can occur daily, once in awhile or only after exercise (exercise-induced asthma).

Early warning signs that breathing problems might be about to occur include:

  • Tightness in the chest
  • Scratchy throat
  • Headache
  • Increased mucous production
  • Tiredness

When these symptoms worsen, swelling of the bronchial airways and an increase in mucous production bring about the symptoms of an asthma attack. These include:

  • Severe wheezing
  • Feeling anxious
  • Constant coughing
  • Pressure or tightness in the chest
  • Inability to breathe; gasping for air

When asthma symptoms progress to an acute or life-threatening stage, the following symptoms may also be present:

  • Difficulty talking
  • Flaring of the nostrils, as breathing becomes more and more labored and it is becoming harder to breathe
  • Bluish tint to skin, beginning around the mouth area and under the finger nails

When the symptoms of asthma progress to the most sever stage, it is critical that you get immediate medical attention as these are signs of oxygen deprivation.

Asthma Symptoms: Prevention and Treatment

For most sufferers, asthma symptoms are kept under control with long-term, preventive, daily medication and an asthma inhaler for flare-ups. However, these are not asthma cures, they are asthma treatments intended to keep the symptoms of the disease in check.

Health care professionals also advise asthma sufferers to avoid triggers that might set asthma symptoms in motion, including any type of airborne allergen or irritants that are bothersome to bronchial airways. Asthma treatment is based upon controlling and managing asthma symptoms, keeping an eye on changes that occur with age and activity, so that appropriate asthma medications can be prescribed or adjusted and new triggers can be identified and avoided.

This really doesn’t offer much solace to the parents of a young child with asthma, who stand by, vigilantly waiting for the other shoe to drop, with baby monitors by their beds and their asthmatic children never far from their sight. Is this any way to live?

Chiropractic Studies Report Healing and a Reduction in Asthma Symptoms and Medications

The great thing about the chiropractors is this – they want to address causes and not cover up symptoms to make it look like you’re well. They want you to be well.

There have been a number of studies involving chiropractic care and its effects on treating asthma. One such study involved 80 asthma patients, ranging in age from birth to 17.

After only 30 days of receiving chiropractic adjustments, the number of asthma attacks was reduced by 75% and the use of asthma medications decreased by 70%. Patient satisfaction ratings averaged 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10.
